On Thursday, July 25, the Reunion Committee presented one of our class gifts to Quinn Stegmann, the fourth child of Helen Bowers Stegmann and Markus Stegmann.
About Quinn.
- As a BABY, Quinn was diagnosed with retina cancer in his right eye. Despite the innumerable trips to Riley, the pain endured by this mighty Quinn, untold expenses for treatments, doctors, medications, travel, and all other costs required to save Quinn’s vision, the doctors recently advised his parents their son’s right eye could not be saved, and in early July, Quinn’s right eye was surgically removed.
- Rather than giving to an organization that regularly gets donations, grants, etc., and has many opportunities for raising funds, our Reunion Committee unanimously decided to give one of our two gifts to this local family.
- Our United Class of 1974 gift of $2,000, includes $1,000 from the reunion budget and $1,000 provided by an anonymous donor.
- The gift will help defray the cost of Quinn’s prosthetic eye.
- This gift is aligned with our class values of supporting the Elkhart Community, its educators, its students and its families.
- An investment in the future of one bright and engaged child who has battled just to live for the opportunity to get to school, is extremely impactful and life-changing for Quinn.
- Quinn’s mother, Helen, was born and raised in Elkhart, and has been an educator in Elkhart Community Schools and and other Elkhart County districts. His father, Markus, also works full time and has a photography business.
